詹姆斯（LeBron James）幾乎爆發出自己所有的能量，38投18中，砍下44分8籃板6助攻，單場得分和出手數都創造個人總決賽生涯的新紀錄。厄文（Kyrie Irving）帶傷上陣，表現也很出色，得到23分7籃板6助攻4抄截，延長賽遺憾傷退。
勇士的浪花兄弟得分都超過了20，柯瑞（Stephen Curry）26分8助攻，湯普森（Klay Thompson）21分。
在詹姆斯的火力帶動下，騎士打出10：0的攻勢，將分差拉大到14分。首節以29：19暫先，詹姆斯獨砍12分。次節，勇士替補發揮，柯瑞找到投射手感，率隊打出9：2的攻勢扳平，次節他奉獻14分。上半場，騎士以51：48繼續領先。
第三節的戰況陷入膠著，到了末段，詹姆斯連砍4分，個人已經轟下31分，刷新他總決賽首戰的得分紀錄。不過三節打完，勇士以73：73將比分追平。
進入末節，詹姆斯顯現領袖氣質，投進三分球，助騎士扳平。柯瑞上籃被厄文封阻，詹姆斯最後一擊偏出，舒伯特（Iman Shumpert）補投也不進，比賽進入延長。
厄文在進攻時摔倒，然後傷退，騎士進攻停頓，勇士在柯瑞的罰球帶動下，終場前1分40秒，打出10：0的攻勢，以108：98領先，奠定勝基。
